$20 Gold Certificate

$20 gold certificate

    gold certificate
  • (GOLD CERTIFICATES) With the increase of gold in America partially brought on by the rush of the mid 1800's, this metal became a prevalent asset for exchange.

  • (GOLD CERTIFICATES) Written confirmation of ownership of gold without necessarily having to take physical delivery of the metal.

  • A gold certificate in general is a certificate of ownership that gold owners hold instead of storing the actual gold. It has both a historic meaning as a US paper currency (1882–1933) and a current meaning as a way to invest in gold.

The family was listed in the 1865 Norway Census as living at 39 and 40 Kirkegaden Street in Farsund with Ole working as a baker.

Garfield and fellow Ohio President Rutherford B. Hayes both served on the first board of trustees of Western Reserve University (now Case Western Reserve University) following the school's move from Hudson, Ohio to Cleveland.[citation needed]
Garfield was a minister and an elder for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), making him the first—and to date, only—member of the clergy to serve as President. [5] He is also claimed as a member of the Church of Christ, as the different branches did not split until the 20th century. Garfield preached his first sermon in Poestenkill, New York.[6] When Garfield relinquished his Eldership, it is said that he stated, "I resign the highest office in the land to become President of the United States."[citation needed]
Garfield Monument at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.Garfield was a member of the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity.[7]
Garfield is the only person in US history to be a Representative, Senator-elect, and President-elect at the same time. To date, he is the only Representative to be directly elected President of the United States.
In 1876, Garfield discovered a novel proof of the Pythagorean Theorem using a trapezoid while serving as a member of the House of Representatives.[8]
Garfield was the first ambidextrous president. It was said that one could ask him a question in English and he could simultaneously write the answer in Latin with one hand, and Ancient Greek with the other.[9]
In the famous drawing of Guiteau shooting Garfield, it is believed that the color of their suits at the time was reversed.[citation needed]
The assassination is also mentioned in the Johnny Cash tune, "Mister Garfield (Has Been Shot Down)" according to the album sleeve written by J. Elliot, released in 1965 by Columbia Records, and re-recorded for the 1972 album "America - A 200 Year Salute in Story And Song", as well in the song "Charles Guiteau" by Kelly Harrell & the Virginia String Band as included in the Anthology of American Folk Music.
In the 1992 film Unforgiven, set in 1881, the character English Bob mocks his (American) fellow travelers for the murder of President Garfield, comparing the republican system of government unfavorably with the monarchical. "If you were to try to assassinate a king, sir, the, how shall I say it, the majesty of royalty would cause you to miss. But, a President, I mean, why not shoot a President?"
Garfield was assassinated only months after Czar Alexander II of Russia was assassinated.
Robert Lincoln, son of Abraham Lincoln, was a witness to Garfield's assassination.[10]
Stephen Sondheim's musical Assassins includes the story of Charles J. Guiteau and his assassination of Garfield and features a song, "The Ballad of Guiteau."
Garfield Monument in Washington, D.C.Part of Charles Guiteau's preserved brain is on display at the Mutter Museum at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.[11] Guiteau's bones and more of his brain, along with Garfield's backbone and a couple ribs, are kept at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington, D.C. on the grounds of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.[12]
Garfield was a direct descendant of Mayflower passenger John Billington through his son Francis, another Mayflower passenger.[13] John Billington was convicted of murder at Plymouth Mass. 1630.[14]
Garfield juggled Indian clubs to build his muscles.[15]
James Garfield was featured on series 1882 $5 National Currency notes,[citation needed] and the series 1886 $20 Gold Certificate.[16] Both of these currency notes are considered to be of moderate rarity, and are quite valuable to collectors.
Garfield has a street in Brooklyn a suburb in Wellington, New Zealand named after him - Garfield Street.[citation needed]
Garfield had one blue eye and one brown eye.

This i was given on my 16th birthday, my sovereign penny. About 4 of them were found in my great grandmothers jewellery box when they were clearing out her house. i've got one, my sisters got one and so has my mu and aunt. i wear it every day, and its pretty much my favourtie piece of jewellery, cause it has so much meaning to me other than some bracelet from Topshop or something!

This is part of my Identity Project for photography, it's one of those object that makes you feel you belong, because you know you've got a whole family behind you :]

For centuries, the Celtic Knot has been a symbol of eternity - the eternity of life, the eternity of nature and the eternity of love. In today’s world, this ancient symbol is still as apt, desirable and graceful as it was when the Ancient Celts first drew it so many centuries ago.

The never-ending, never-beginning knot provides an evocative reminder of life's interconnectedness, a symbol which is as strong today as it was when it first adorned the pendants and tapestries of an ancient people. The Love Knot is all about tradition with a twist; a sparkling new style based on an ancient design. Eternal love that encircles the soul with the never-ending embrace of love captured in a creation of gold and silver, diamonds and precious gems.

The Love Knot represents a stylized heart formed from a knot that hugs each piece, providing a stylish new twist on two classic symbols: the heart and the Celtic knot. From husband-to-wife, mother-to-daughter, grandmother-to-granddaughter; whatever the celebration, occasion or simply a ‘just because I love you’ gift, the Love Knot cherishes true love that has no beginning and no ending.

Taking Care of Your Love Knot Jewelry

Fine jewelry expresses love, permanence, individuality and style more eloquently than words could ever do. If treated carefully, the Love Knot jewelry item you purchase today could last a lifetime and might even be handed down to future generations. Make your Love Knot jewelry sparkle, shine and last a lifetime with these important tips:

Firstly, gold is lasting and durable but can get scratched or dented if treated roughly. This is particularly true of items worn on the hands, such as rings or bracelets that are prone to repeated contact. So remove these pieces before any type of strenuous activity.

Secondly, beware of chemicals. Gold's worst enemy is chlorine. Repeated exposure can weaken gold's structure, eventually leading to breakage. So keep your gold jewelry away from chlorinated cleaning products and out of swimming pools and jacuzzis.
On a related note, acids, abrasives and other harsh chemicals found in some common household cleaning solutions can weaken your jewelry or damage its tanish, so it's best to cover up rings and bracelets with rubber gloves while doing heavy-duty cleaning. Or better yet, remove these pieces altogether.

Gold can lose its luster over time if repeatedly exposed to dust, moisture, perspiration and makeup, so be sure to clean your jewelry regularly. You can use a cleaning solution of sudsy, lukewarm water, or bring it to your local jeweler and have it professionally steam-cleaned. After cleaning and rinsing, always dry and polish jewelry with a chamois or a soft cloth to avoid scratches and to bring out its shine.

Proper storage is as important as cleaning. Protect your jewelry by storing it safely in a jewelry box or keeping it wrapped in a soft cloth when not being worn. Furthermore, keeping pieces stored separately will prevent them from getting tangled or scratching one another.
